Even water distribution in sprinkler systems
/In a recent Irrigation project in Mozambique, the designers needed to install a pressure-sustaining valve on the outlet of each hydrant to ensure even distribution of pressure and to prevent one area from taking all the flow and “starving” other areas. This is a common requirement in large Irrigation systems and applies equally to sprinkler systems – whether centre pivot, dragline or individual sprinklers.
The most common way to achieve this is with a pilot-operated “Pressure Sustaining” valve as shown.
Although this is the accepted practice in irrigation projects, it is prone to breakages of pilots and tubing, tampering and faulty operation due to dirt particles in the water. In addition it is quite costly.
After some debate with the Design Engineer, it was agreed that a Maric Flow Control Valve could achieve the same result.
A Maric Flow Control Valve has the following advantages:
It is tamper proof.
If rubber control rings need to be changed at a later stage due to incorrect calculations or change in circumstances, the rubbers can easily be changed to accommodate a different flow rate.
It is not susceptible to dirty water.
Totally protected from damage as it fits between flanges as a wafer pattern valve – see valve in PVC material.
Long life … in excess of 20 years.
Economically priced.
