The Northern Cape has a diversified mineral resource endowment. The endowment has been developed by academia and exploration, as well as mining activities ranging from small scale to large scale. Currently, the Northern Cape is a recipient of large investments for the continuous development with regards to academic research, green- and brownfields exploration, mining and related technological development. Mineral deposits which are currently being developed include diamonds, base metals, ferrous metals, industrial minerals, etc. Current academic research provides new insights into the geological understanding required to unravel complexities of deposits, in order to enable economical extraction possibilities. To this end, the GSSA would like to extend an invitation to the industry and academia as well as anyone else interested, to join us on October 10-11, 2019 in Kathu for a conference event and a field trip. The event will cover all the important mineral deposits and relevant academic research with a wide range of speakers.
