It is with a heavy heart that I learnt of the passing of a special work colleague, Ernst Bertram, who passed away on 1 February 2018. Ernst retired from the Department of Water and Sanitation in March 2016. He was always willing to share his knowledge to help those who asked for it. I was often the recipient of such knowledge.
The following is an excerpt from an email I received from him after he retired:
‘L'aura, Luckily not all my colleagues have forgotten me and from time to time I am asked advice. Ernst’
The following is an excerpt from an email I received from him in response to yet another query I had in December last year.
L'aura, I am well and soon off to NZ to visit my daughter and their three children. However, I will look into this aspect. Ernst’
Not even his trip to his family over Christmas last year, stood in the way of being his usual helpful self!
I for one - and I’m sure I speak for many - will never forget you Ernst!
Our condolences go out to his family and friends.
